Along the "rough tidal shore" to find safe anchorage, well-equipped marinas and sleepy fishing villages. Discover the traditional Breton cuisine and enjoy the fresh seafood! Life on board is determined by the tide. You plan your trip using the tide tables, find you on board your yacht ... You will soon feel at one with nature.

Brittany and Normandy are very attractive areas for sailing. They are rich in geographic, climatic and cultural contrasts. You will be able to see wild coasts and protected gulfs there and you will sail deep into the land of dramatic rivers. Nowhere else in Europe, the Atlantic coast is so diverse and at the same time challenging. The connection between land and sea is very intimately on the coast of Normandy and the northern and western Brittany. Around the rocky headlands of Pointe de Saint-Mathieu, Pointe du Raz and Pointe de Penmarch the coast is wild and rough. There are dangerous cliffs, stormy waves, strong currents and a strikingly large tidal range. Who sail here gets an idea of the elemental forces when they run rampant with tidal currents between the rocks and reefs. Even in calm weather and moderate winds those infamous country projections counts as "really bad places." Sailing in this area offers a real intensive and difficult experience. In the south of Brittany, the Atlantic Ocean shows itself a little more quiet and peaceful. From Benodet to the peninsula of Quiberon there is a 60 mile long stretch of coastline which runs with idyllic bays, islands and picturesque port towns. Particularly impressive are the rivers which are cut deep into the mountainous landscape. You can sail many miles on them to the inland. Some of these coastal rivers are Odet, Belon and Blavet. It is worth to stop at the ancient port cities Audierne and Quimper. The coast in front of the Île de Groix and Archipelago of Glénan host the most famous sailing school Les Glénans. To the southeast lies the peninsula of Quiberon, which is connected by a narrow strip of dunes to the mainland. The landscape here is extremely diverse, because one side of the bay and the other facing the Atlantic Ocean. The peninsula describes the rugged beauty of Brittany very well. Between Quiberon and the mouth of the river Vilaine you find the Baie de Quiberon. This bay is very protected and only open to the east. In the north it is bounded by the Gulf of Morbihan and south by islands and reefs. In this sea area are the big marinas Crouesty Port, Port Haliguen and Port de La Trinité sur Mer. From here you can explore many beautiful destinations in relaxed day trips, such as the largest Breton Island Belle-Ile. As their name implies, it is the most beautiful island in sight. On the varied coast of Belle-Ile, there are fine sandy beaches, picturesque villages, coastal cliffs and unusual rock formations like the Grotte de l'Apothicairerie. For a sailing trip in the Gulf of Morbihan, one should take some days. The island-rich inland sea is a well protected water with idyllic harbors and meadows which last till the water. Despite the treacherous flow conditions of the Gulf of Morbihan it is one of the most beautiful areas.

The entire French Atlantic coast has a better than average yacht charter infrastructure. The marinas and ports provide an excellent service and are rarely more than 20 nautical miles apart. They are usually equipped with pontoons and can thus be controlled in any tide. Even if there is an unexpected change in the weather sailing crews can quickly find a safe haven. On the south coast of Brittany between Vannes and Benodet are the charter centers. Large marinas are Crouesty Port, La Tininté sur Mer, Port Haliguen, Port du Port de Commerce de Kernevel and Lorient. In addition to the marinas there are although many small fishing ports, which offer berths at many Mooringtonnen. The main ports of Brittany and Normandy coast are: Le Havre, Cherbourg, Flamanville, St. Malo, Larmor-Plage, La Trinite sur Mer, Crouesty, Lorient and La Rochelle.

The wind is predominantly from the west. In Brittany there is a warm subtropical climate. In summer, the south coast benefits from climate Azores High.
