Approach

The marina lies about ΡΛ miles to the SE of Faliron.
Conspicuous It is difficult to make out exactly where the marina is along this built-up coast. Following the coast, the outer moles and masts of yachts moored within will soon be seen. Immediately W of the marina a green lawn in a cemetery with a conspicuous white cross can be identified. The entrance is not apparent until you are right up to the marina.
By night The entrance is lit: Fl.G.3s9M/Fl.R.3s9M. Despite the range of the lights they can be difficult to see against the bright flashing lights along the waterfront VHF Ch 09, 16.
Dangers Care must be taken of the reef running SW from Ák Áy Kosmas about 1 mile S of the Marina. A W cardinal (YBY) tower stands towards the end of the reef: light Q(9)15s5M.

Mooring

Data 900 berths. Visitors berths. Max LOA c.40m. Depths 2-4·5m. Go stern or bows-to under the W mole wherever you can. There are laid moorings tailed to a buoy or to the quay. The visitors' quay is theoretically along the inner W mole (berths A-E), but it is so congested here with permanent berth holders that it can be exasperating trying to find a berth. Asking at the office normally doesn't help at all.

Note 1. The marina has little security and a number of yachtsmen have asked me to mention that a 'minder' is virtually mandatory. Lone females should be wary of wandering around at night.
Note 2. The marina has recently been taken over by a private consortium and it is likely there will be significant changes in the near future. No details were available at the time of publication.

Facilities

Services Water and electricity (220v) near every berth. Showers and toilets near the office.
Fuel On the quay just inside the entrance.
Repairs Most mechanical repairs. Light engineering work including stainless steel work can be arranged. Wood and GRP repairs. Electrical and electronic repairs Sailmaker. Chandlers along the main coast road. Yachts can be craned onto the hard in the marina if there is room.
Provisions Good shopping for provisions nearby. Ice available. Eating out Tavernas along the coast road and also on the beach side. There are some good local tavernas tucked up in the streets behind the main coast road.
Other PO, OTE, banks and ATMs in Faliron. Greek gas and Camping Gaz. Hire cars and motorbikes. Regular buses into Athens and Piraeus from outside the marina.

General

The surrounding suburbs are drab apartment blocks and the marina is not much better. One of the things which has blighted Kalamâki and its environs, the noise of large jet aircraft taking off from the nearby airport, has disappeared now the new airport at Spâta has opened. At night a disco within the marina blasts out enough decibels to shiver your GRP. If you get the impression I don't much like the place you are right and neither, for that matter, do most people who visit here. Hopefully the acquisition of the marina by a private consortium will sort out some of the problems that have given it such a bad reputation in the past.
